“The Ethics of Kindness: When Is It Right to Draw Boundaries?”

Imagine you’re playing with your toys, and someone asks to borrow your favorite one. You really love this toy, but you also want to be kind and share. So, what do you do? Sometimes, it’s right to share, but other times, it’s important to keep something for yourself. Kindness doesn’t always mean saying “yes” to everything. It also means knowing when to say “no” so you don’t feel hurt or tired. It’s okay to say, “I can’t share this toy right now, but I can play with you later!” This is what we call drawing boundaries. Boundaries are like invisible lines that protect us, helping us feel safe and happy. When we say “no” in a kind way, we’re taking care of ourselves so we can keep being kind to others in the future. Being kind isn’t just about giving and doing for others—it’s about making sure we feel good too. So, when you’re being kind, remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as helping others. It’s all about balance—helping others while also respecting your own needs!
